 2017 Preview 


       Mountain Brook completed the 2016 season with a 8-3 record. With their 5-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 7A region three, the Spartans earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Mountain Brook's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Gadsden City by a score of 15-7.

       It marked the first time since the 2013 season that the Spartans qualified for the playoffs. The Spartans hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Yeager saw improvement as they won eight games following a 3-7 record in 2015.

       Since 2010, Mountain Brook has gone a combined 55-27. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 7A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Mountain Brook has gone a combined 198-99. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 7A and 43rd in the AHSAA.

       The Spartans are led by head coach Chris Yeager who is entering his twelveth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 84-44 over the past eleven seasons at Mountain Brook. Under his direction the Spartans have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won one region crown with Coach Yeager.

       Coach Yeager's overall record as a head football coach in fifteen season stands at 109-64 (63.0%). His 109 wins rank rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Yeager's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won two region championships.

       Coach Yeager got the Spatans back on the winning track last year.

       The Mountain Brook Spartans will play in Class 7A region three during the 2017 season.

       The Spartans should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Spartans open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Gulf Shores on Friday, August 25 at Spartan Stadium. Last year the Gulf Shores Dolphins finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in ninth place in Class 6A region one. The Dolphins closed out the regular season with a loss to Robertsdale by a score of 34-13.

       Mountain Brook and Gulf Shores have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Spartans have a 2-0-0 record against the Dolphins. They last met in 2016 with Mountain Brook winning by a score of 56-6.
